Have you broken your New Year’s Resolution yet?  Did you even have one?  I have one, like I do every year.  I say it to myself, and I tend to forget about it as the days go by.

Is my resolution even practical?

This year, one of Functional Pathways values really stands out.  Commitment:  We are committed to doing everything we can do to improve the lives of our patients.  I take commitment personally as well.

Commitment is not just a word, it is an act.

“Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach.” –Tom Robbins

Setting Goals:

  1. Be specific
  2. Focus on short term goals.  — These short term goals are met to achieve the long term goal.
  3. Write it down.
  4. Put a number on it.  Avoid the word “every day.” — Let’s face it, Life happens, and “every day” is not realistic.
  5. Set yourself up for success. Think positive. — Consider adding something to your life rather than taking away.  When you add more fruits and veggies to your daily lifestyle, you have less room for chips and ice cream.
  6. Follow-up.  Write down your progress and set future dates to track progress.
  7. Reward.  Rewarding yourself doesn’t have to mean you are rewarding yourself on what you have worked so hard to change, but focus more on something you never do for yourself.  A massage, new outfit, or night out, are all things we can go without.  A reward needs to be a want, not a need.  Everyone loves a reason to celebrate, so CELEBRATE good times… come on!

“When you are committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.”

Obstacles are the things we see when we take our eyes off of our goals.  When you stray away, stop, focus, and get back on track.  I believe in you and your COMMITMENT to stick with it.
