I know the holidays are quickly approaching but have you given any thought to implementation of ICD-10? If not, you may not be behind the 8-ball……..YET!
ICD-10 goes into effect October 1, 2014 which means we have 11 month to prepare! If you use ICD-9 codes on your claims, you must make the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10.

If you think “this is a therapy thing” you are partially correct. Transitioning from ICD-9 to ICD-10 will affect therapy but not at the magnitude it will affect HIM, MDS, Billing Departments. Believe it or not, there are numerous areas that will be significantly impacted in your business and day-to-day operations when transitioning to ICD-10. You need to prepare, plan, train staff, review budgets and identify financial risk, software readiness…and that’s just the beginning.
CMS is encouraging the entire health care industry to take advantage of the numerous resources available to prepare for ICD-10. Did you know that most providers should be close to the testing phase? Where are you? Where is your software vendor in terms of readiness for testing?
Eleven months may seem like a long time but if you think about the magnitude of the change from ICD-9 to ICD-10, it isn’t going to be something that you can train everyone on in a day….it is going to time a significant amount of time, training, and resources.
