What Do I Deserve question in a thought cloud above a thinker wo

When did we become such an entitled society? That we are “owed” something for little or no effort? Years ago it was a given that we were expected to work hard for what we needed, wanted and dreamt for.  We did not expect to hold out our hands and be “given” anything not earned. Nowadays, it seems that all we hear about is the next “free” program, or what we can do to get something with as little effort as possible!

Now, I am not saying that this is everyone’s mentality, but I still do see it out there and it is dispiriting. In order to effect real change, especially, in the healthcare arena, we must be willing to be part of the solution by ensuring ethical delivery of  therapy services, appropriate billing for those services, and be willing to maintain our strong work ethic. Doing this in an ever changing environment is a challenge, but, we can do it!

Developing and maintaining strong facility based therapy teams is ultimately one of the most important things we can do to promote ourselves. Build up your team! Be a part of the positive influence for your facility. Meet challenges head on with TEAM support. Communicate with each other and share ideas. We are only as strong as our weakest link. If there is someone on your team with a sense of entitlement, help them overcome this inherently disabling mentality!

When we replace a sense of entitlement and expectation with a sense of service and gratitude, we quickly see a positive impact on the residents in our care.
