Living the Values:

The Communities at Indian Haven are our July Living the Values contest winner!! Their “Independence Day” carnival is a prime example of our staff taking responsibility for creating and maintaining strong relationships in their facility with very original, out-of-the-box thinking. I’m very proud to have them on our team and honored to share their story. Cara Salotti, OTR/L, describes their Independence Day idea below:

As we all know, July 4th is Independence Day in the US. This year’s “Independence Day” meant much more to everyone at the Communities at Indian Haven. The therapy department decided to start off the summer with an old-fashioned carnival to help foster more meaningful and deeper relationships. Each therapy staff member was challenged to come with a “carnival type” game that incorporated therapy’s typical goals like balance, upper extremity strength, and functional mobility. The residents and staff had a blast participating in each carnival game. PT worked on gait and transfer training on multiple surfaces. The residents on OT caseload incorporated therapy goals as they made carnival treats and prizes earlier in the week. ST residents made treats such as snow cones and pretzels. The carnival was held in the courtyard of the facility and was open to everyone! Stronger relationships were built between residents, rehab staff and the Communities at Indian Haven staff. Everyone assisted in the planning and set up of the first annual “Independence Day” carnival. It was a great way to celebrate both our residents’ independence and our country’s independence through our Core Value of RELATIONSHIPS!

Thanks for Living the Values and enjoy your catered lunch!
