After one of the roughest winters the U.S. has seen in a long time, Spring is here!

The excitement of warmer weather and pretty flowers blooming can trigger the brain to secrete endorphins, which are chemicals that give you a sense of well-being.  The sun is out, providing us with Vitamin D, which increases blood flow, boosts our immune system, and prevents osteoporosis.

Spring Fever gives us a sudden increase in energy resulting in us being more active!

Tips for exercising outside:

  • Aim to exercise 20-40 minutes outside most days of the week.
  • Go out in early morning or late evening.  Avoid direct sun and heat.
  • Go out in early morning to avoid the pollen.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Resume exercise gradually to avoid injury.
  • Wear protective clothing and sunblock.

Did you know? 36% of Americans admit that they get no physical activity in the Winter.

2/3 admit they don’t eat enough fruit and ¾ admit they don’t eat enough vegetables.

Allergies account for 17 million office visits.  Exercise soothes seasonal allergies by easing congestion.

Don’t forget that gardening for 30-45 minutes counts as a daily dose of moderate physical activity and results in fresh produce.  Take advantage of fresh food!  Healthy and natural snacks keep your energy up in a delicious way.

May your days be brighter, and smile be contagious!
